Well and so, here we are... I'm a 36-year-old Jewish cat lady who currently lives with her alcoholic grandmother and bitter, codependent mother in a trailer double-wide mobile home in rural Oregon. I'm unemployed and depressed. I am working on fixing about half of those things to be better.

I've done Idol a few times before now, and was hesitant to do it this time - if showering and applying for 2 jobs a week is hard, how will I write? But writing brings me out of myself, interacting with people gives me hope. Connections, y'all.... connections are important.

Despite it being week 0, I haven't come up with a cohesive plan for Idol. Not that I've ever come up with a cohesive plan for Idol, but it seems like such a good idea, you know? I'm toying with writing memoir/short stories revolving around sadredneckville because 'they' say to write what you know.... If you've read the book Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollock, that's what I'm shooting for... not in a "plagiaristic" type of way, in a "I didn't know people would like stories like this" kind of way, and then we're back to writing what you know! But there may not be a theme for anything either. It's a crap shoot.

Hello and welcome, either way. I look forward to talking with you and reading your work. Also, all concrit is welcome here - I do love and enjoy all the encouraging "this is great!" comments, but if there's something you see that you think would make my writing better, please don't hesitate to tell me! Nicely though, I'm fragile ;)

I haven't read this author, but I loved your entries last season, so I am confident your writing this season will be wonderful.

*hugs back* Thank you, it is tough, but also I'm getting to the point where I'm just tired of being a sad sack o' crap all the time, so just working through chemical imbalance right now... the will to kick major ass at everything is coming back! I appreciate your comment :)

Nice to meet you! I'm a 31 year old Jewish cat lady who lives with her two cats and husband but I know what it's like to live with a codependent mother.

I have no real plan for Idol either besides one week at a time.

I found a decent amount of success in Idol when I played while depressed. It definitely helped me to be able to connect with new friends who helped me feel less alone in the world.

I'm glad to see that you're back, and I think Idol will help give you some emotional rewards that might help carry you through what you're dealing with in RL. I hope so!

Me too :) It should, Idol has been such a great influence on my life in the past. I could totally get all maudlin about it actually.

I'm a 32-year-old agnostic cat lady who currently lives with her recovering alcoholic mother in a Victorian twin.

I'm one of the noobs this season, so I don't even know how to come up with a plan for what I'm going to do. Just go with the flow, I guess and see what happens.

High-five! The saddest of high-fives, though I'm glad your mother is in recovery. That's difficult, though.

Honestly, no plan might be the way to go. As much as I'd love a plan, and the theme I discussed in the post is something I do well writing around, some of the topics just won't fit, I don't think. Be flexible, and good luck!

Welcome back.

I think there are lots of cat ladies. I'm sort of more of an animal lady (that sounds worse than I mean it ). We have cats, dogs, horses, guinea pigs and a hedgehog. I am housing 5 tortoises for a friend for the winter. Can I be the tortoise lady?

Date: 2016-11-23 01:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sinnamongirl.livejournal.com
Yes, you can definitely be the tortoise lady! In fact that sounds way cooler than cat lady... I'm not a big fan of tortoises or else I'd get myself some and hijack your title ;) Good luck this season!

They are a lot more fun and personable than you would expect.

I trust your opinion on this, so I may open myself up to the idea of a tortoise friend! My only real experience with them is finding, on 2 different occasions in 2 different cities, someone's escaped tortoise friend on the lawn and trying to figure out where it should return to. I don't even remember friends having pet turtles when I was a kid. So, probably lack of exposure leading to ignorance about them....

I wonder how someone loses a tortoise friend.

I say this even though I found Morla in the middle of the basement one day because the enclosure door opened and he went walkabout. Image (http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/wolfden/1304105/92651/92651_original.jpg)

I also wondered how someone could lose a tortoise friend, but I figure the same thing? Or they're like the slowest-moving ninjas ever? ;) Morla's cute!

Over the summer I had a tortoise bite my toe. It didn't hurt and I certainly had time to get out of the way but didn't. It was fascinating to watch come over and nom my toe and then realize it wasn't food and toddle off.

Nearly everyone hearing the story says "you couldn't have moved out of the way?"

I'd still be like... mesmerized? By the fact a tortoise was actually doing that. So, yeah, it's a natural reaction to think you could've gotten out of the way, but still, I think it's also a natural reaction to stand there and let it happen!

Mesmerized is a good description.

I'm really enjoying them. They all have such unique personalities. Watching all the stuff they do is cool. The big guy likes being loved on and comes for scritches whenever there are people around. The others interact in different ways. The leopard tortoise is the shyest and she's also my favorite. I've made it my mission to win her over.
